WAR and Civil Unrest Risk 5th March 2013

The below listing provides information on Countries and Territories that ETI regards as "high risk zones" no matter whether the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) likewise have issued a travel warning. War Zones

  • Afghanistan: All but Kabul
  • Burundi: Provinces Cibitoke, Bubanza and Bujumbura except the Capital Proper
  • Democratic Republic of Congo: Whole Country
  • Central African Republic: Whole Country
  • Chad: Whole Country, except the capital
  • Georgia: Break-away republics South Ossetia and Abkhazia and their borders with rump Georgia to a depth of 25 kms.
  • Haiti: Whole Country
  • India: Jammu & Kashmir; in Ladakh District within 50km of the Pakistani border (LoC). Immediate borders with Pakistan, except the crossing at Wagah.
  • Iraq: Border areas of Kurdish region (Dohuk, Erbil and Al-Sulamanniyya provinces). Rest of country
  • Israel: Gaza.
  • Libya: Rest of Country
  • Mali: Whole Country
  • Nigeria: Rivers State except Port Harcourt proper; Borno State and Yobe State; cities of Kaduna and Kano.
  • Pakistan: Kashmir at Line of Control out to 50km and Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Entire provinces of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • Philippines: Jolo Group
  • Russia: Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan & North Ossetia
  • Somalia: Enitre Country except autonomous area of Somaliland
  • Sudan: Darfur Provinces, South Kordofan and further border areas between Noth and Soth Sudan.
  • Syria: Whole Country
  • Uganda: The North Eastern districts of Kapchorwa, Katakwi, Kotido, Moroto and Nakapiripirit. Immediate borders with the DR Congo and Sudan except urban areas.
  • Yemen: Whole Country.

  • Burkina Faso: Regions Centre-Nord, Nord and Sahal; Mali border areas
  • Burma (Myanmar): Karen, Kayah, Rhakhine and Shan states; Karchin and Sagaing states at the border with India to a distance of 75km
  • Burundi: Rest of Country
  • Cambodia: Border region with Thailand
  • Cameroon: Extreme North Province and border with Nigeria
  • Chad: Capital
  • Colombia: Whole country
  • Congo (brz): Pool region (including Brazzaville proper)
  • Cote d’Ivoire: Areas north of the former "Zone du Confiance” and the regions Bas Sassandra,
    Montagnes and Moyen Cavally.
  • Ecuador: Border with Colombia
  • Egypt: North Sinai governorate. South Sinai governorate, except the coast and tourist areas along the Red Sea, including the coastal road and airports at Taba and Sharm el Sheikh
  • Eritrea: Border area with Sudan and border with Ethiopia
  • Ethiopia: The Somalia and Gambella regions. All Border areas to a depth of 50kms. incl. Danakil Desert
  • Georgia: Areas along the border with Russia to a depth of 25km.
  • Guinea: Guinee Forestiere region and the Cote d’Ivoire border.
  • Guinea-Bissau: Areas along the border with Senegal.
  • India: Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
  • Indonesia: Central Sulawesi, Ambon, Aceh & Papua.
    Iraq Kurdish region (Dohuk, Erbil and As-Sulamanniyya provinces) except for external border areas of
    the region.
  • Israel: West Bank, Jerusalem proper and the Golan heights. Internal (1967) borders between Israel, the Gaza Strip and West Bank, plus the borders with Egypt, Lebanon and Syria.
  • Jordan: The Syrian border to a depth of 5km.
  • Kenya: Slum areas of Nairobi as well as the areas immediately to the west and north of the city. Somali border to a depth of 50km.
  • Kyrgyzstan: Provinces Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh.
  • Laos: Provinces Xieng Khouang and Saisomboun Special Economic Zone.
  • Lebanon: Area between the Israeli border and the Litani River as well as the Bekaa Valley. Urban areas and all UNRWA refugee camps, and Syrian border areas.
  • Liberia: Whole country
  • Libya: Tripoli proper.
  • Malaysia: In the Sabah Province, east of a line running from Sandankan in the north to Tawau in the south as well as islands off this coast.
  • Mexico: US border states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuaua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and
    Tamaulipas, and rural areas of Durango and Zacatecas as well as remote rural Guerrero State.
  • Niger: All areas north of Niamey
  • Nigeria: States of Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Delta, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano and Plateau. City of Port
    Harcourt. Niger border.
  • Pakistan: rest of country
  • Panama: Darién Province
  • Peru: Cuzco and Ayacucho departments, and the valleys of the Ene, Apurímac and Huallaga rivers &
    Colombian border
  • Philippines: Mindanao, Basilan and rump Sulu Archipelago
  • Rwanda: Burundi & Democratic Republic of Congo borders
  • Saudi Arabia: Border area with Yemen
  • Serbia: Kosovo: "Sevorno Kosovo” and town of Mitrovica
  • Sierra Leone: Border areas
  • Somalia: Autonomous area of Somaliland

  • Tajikistan: Afghan border to a depth of 30km.

  • Venezuela: Colombian border to within 50km
