Asthma single trip

  • Published on

Many people in the UK suffer from asthma, and while for most this is an easily controlled medical condition, which has little effect on the ability to travel, many people still have trouble finding asthma single trip travel insurance for their holidays. ERGO Medi-Care believe that asthma shouldn’t be a barrier to you getting out there!

Asthma Single Trip

With over 5 million people receiving some sort of treatment for asthma, it is one of the most common pre-existing medical conditions that people need to consider before they travel. However, for many people their asthma has been an ongoing and probably lifelong condition that is easily managed. Knowing this, ERGO Medi-Care offer travel insurance for asthma sufferers, as we believe asthma shouldn’t be a barrier to planning and taking a trip or holiday.

With ERGO Medi-Care, we cover over 200 conditions automatically, at no additional cost. You can find out more about those on our Automatically Approved Medical Conditions list.

If your conditions aren’t automatically accepted, we offer a simple process to assess your needs either online or by talking them through with one of our customer service team over the phone.

Your medical needs

Every individual’s asthma is different, and so ERGO Medi-Care offer a simple online or over the telephone medical screening process to understand each person’s unique requirements relating to their asthma.

When buying your Asthma single trip policy you are offered the chance with Medi-Care single trip Travel Insurance to buy your policy as an individual, a couple or as a family, specifying which individuals in your party suffer from asthma or any other medical conditions. This makes organising your insurance and your trip much simpler with just one phone call or the click of a button.

Travelling to Europe and the USA

ERGO Medi-Care offer a choice of European destinations, including Turkey and Egypt. Like the ERGO Leisure travel insurance, with ERGO Medi-care you also have the option to choose between our 3 levels of cover: Lite, Essential or Premier, each offering slightly different cover options. We offer cover for medical expenses, cancellation, curtailment, personal effects, legal costs and expenses.

Asthma suffers can also chose a single trip policy with Worldwide cover, including the USA. This means your holiday planning and choice of destination doesn’t have to be limited by your medical condition, and you will be supported by ERGO Medi-Care’s extensive group of assistance networks and pre-approved medical facilities wherever you travel.

Asthma Single Trip Travel Advice

Although for most people asthma conditions are mild and are not always present, it’s still important to take your condition into account when planning your trip to ensure you are able to make the most of it. While for some people travelling to a foreign country can mean a break from some of the common triggers of asthma such as pollen, house dust or pollution, others can find that the change in weather, routine, location or altitude can trigger their asthma symptoms.

It’s a good idea to be aware of what your asthma triggers are before you travel. If you suffer from household triggers such as second hand smoke, feather duvets and pillows, or animal hair then check with the hotel or B&B before you book.

If pollution is a problem then trying to avoid big cities is probably a good idea when deciding on your destination. If pollen is a trigger for your asthma, check on the peak pollen times of the year in your chosen destination before deciding when you want to visit. Air quality also has annual peaks and troughs, so if your dream break is a city break then you can also check these online too.

For many people who have asthma air travel is not an issue. However, if your asthma is severe or you are less physically fit it is advisable to check with your local GP or nurse before you travel as you may have issues with the reduced air pressure in the aircraft cabin.
